Our vision is for a world where no girl is limited by her period.

The Problem

Without the resources or information to manage menstruation, millions of girls around the world are forced to miss school during their periods. In Kenya - one of the countries in which Huru works - the average girl reports missing at least 3 days of school per month because she doesn’t have what she needs to manage her period.

This has serious personal and educational consequences, like falling behind in class, dropping out altogether and having to use unsafe substitutes for pads like mattress filling or leaves. Luckily, we have a solution.

65% OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN KENYA CANNOT AFFORD MENSTRUAL PADS.

When having a period is unaffordable, girls are forced to stay home from the classroom.

Our Solution

We have a straightforward solution: high quality reusable menstrual pads and comprehensive health education. Period. Huru locally produces girl-approved reusable menstrual pads, designed for the resilient girls and women who wear them. Our pads are distributed alongside comprehensive health education on menstrual health, sexual and reproductive health, HIV prevention, gender-based violence, and life skills education.

To date, we’ve kept 170,000 girls in school and young women healthy across underserved communities in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
