Keep Girls in School
Girls across Kenya are ready to go back to school—if we give them the chance.
Before backpacks. Before notebooks. Let’s start with dignity.
Velma, 13 - Huru beneficiary
When Velma got her first period, her mother did everything she could—scraping together what little money the family had to buy pads.
And when there is no room in the budget for something as basic as menstrual supplies, Velma stays home from school.
“I woke up and found that my period had already started,” she says.“I didn’t have any pads left, so I didn’t go to school.”
Every month, thousands of girls in Kenya are forced to miss school simply because they lack the period protection they need.
At Huru, we’re changing that.
We recently asked what inspires support, and the answer was clear: 92% said it’s to keep girls in school.
