Meet Salma
Every month, Salma faced the same question: how would she manage her period at school?
“In class, I could not work well. I could not write properly or focus. I was always afraid.”
She relied on pieces of cloth or whatever materials she could find. It often left her dealing with infections, discomfort, and constant worry.
Thanks to the generosity of Huru supporters, Salma and 130 classmates received Huru Kits with reusable sanitary pads that last up to two years, underwear, soap, and menstrual health education.
Now, she says, “I go to school every day of the week.”
What we heard at her school
Salma’s experience was not hers alone.
At Imara Comprehensive School, we spoke with teacher Mary, who shared what she sees each month:
“Many girls missed three to five days of school every month, which led to a lot of lost learning time. While boys remained in class, girls fell behind, returning to lessons that had already moved on.”
A year later, Salma is still using her Huru Kit and told us the difference it has made:
“The pads have helped me stay healthy, attend school, and concentrate in class. I can do my schoolwork and home activities without worrying.”
More girls are facing the same challenges Salma once did, and with support from donors like you, they can receive tools and education needed to stay in school.
