Every month, girls across Africa miss school because they do not have access to safe, sustainable period products and experience the shame and embarrassment associated with menstruation. Too often, girls fall behind in school and ultimately drop out.
Without access to menstrual health education and basic reproductive health information, they are susceptible to gender-based violence, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS, and deeply rooted cultural stigmas.
For 15 years, Huru has been taking a stand against period poverty - the struggle of not having access to menstrual products and resources - by working directly with schools and the girls they educate. Our sustainable solutions involve delivering high-quality, reusable pads and providing comprehensive menstrual health and wellness education directly to girls and their classmates in their schools.

We use our vast network to find girls who most need our help. From there, Huru teams go into schools, rescue centers, and community centers across East Africa to distribute supplies and educate girls and young women.
