A Model for Change
Nothing achieves more powerful results than strong partnerships directed towards a common goal. The accomplishments of HURU International’s existing relationships are proof of that. You could call us an “open source” organization, offering services and an operational model that are adaptable to the purposes of a wide range of NGOs and relief agencies working in diverse settings.
In creating HURU, our primary objective was to develop a cost-effective solution that would directly and meaningfully address the issues that emerge from the intersection of disease and poverty, while yielding sustainable and measurable results. Some of these issues include access to education, HIV/AIDS prevention, and the creation of sustainable employment.
To ensure that HURU achieves its goal to reach as many girls as possible, our founders designed the program with three long-term strategic objectives in mind: replication, integration and sustainability.
Replicate
The problems that we identified in Africa are repeated throughout the developing world. For this reason, HURU International was made to be replicated. HURU’s model of community-based production means that the project can be copied and adapted to bring the same benefits to different cultures and countries throughout the world.
Integrate
Although HURU’s work stands strongly on its own, our model also allows for smooth integration into projects being implemented by other NGO’s and relief agencies. HURU International would make a valuable partner for any organization working on the convergent issues of health, poverty, and education; and among orphans and vulnerable children (OVC), and other populations of underserved girls.
Sustain
HURU’s sustainability centers on the establishment of a community-based presence that encourages a broad base of support and involvement among local populations and encourages collaborative work in the dissemination of HIV/AIDS prevention materials and educational efforts.
Successful
HURU’s strategic partnership with AmericaShare/Micato Safaris and Johnson & Johnson resulted in a highly successful opening phase, which included research and planning, production and distribution, and the development of a strong monitoring and evaluation framework. HURU’s operational partnership with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has helped the organization to further expand its network and advance the common goals of both programs.
To build on these initial successes, HURU is actively seeking like-minded organizations for mutually beneficial strategic and operational partnerships. If you would like to learn about how HURU can help your organization, please contact us.
